Weight loss question: Will I get loose skin once I'm done?

Ok, so, I lost fifty pounds already and I have forty more to go, I'm just wondering, (even though several people have assured me I won't get the loose skin once I'm done) I've seen people get that really loose saggy skin when they are done losing weight, in those cases it was extreme and they were really really overweight older people, but I was wondering if that could happen to me? I'm twenty years old, this is why they say my skin won't go that way because I'm still young BUT nonetheless, I'm still somewhat worried because I was overweight for a long time. So that's my question, thank you for your time.

Weight loss question: Will I get loose skin once I'm done?
First off congratulations! That's great work!

It is really hard to say how much loose skin you will have. You will likely have a bit. But if the weight doesnt come off too fast and you have good genes it may not be too bad. Everyone is different. Especially as you are young, you will have less loose skin than an older person, but you may still have some. It also depends on how well the weight was spread out too, if it was mostly in your tummy, say, and not as much elsewhere then likely that is where you will notice loose skin.

My suggestion to help prevent this is to take up weight training if you arent already. It will help promote fat loss (not to be confused with weight loss), and will help fill out your figure. You arent likely to gain huge amounts of muscle, but toning would help. I lift as heavy as i can safely, 3 times a week, 6-8 different moves with about 8-10 reps X 3 sets.

Good luck.

Reply:That's not something you should have to worry about. Especially if you are exercising on a regular basis.
Reply:If you lose close to 90 pounds, I'm sure you'll have some loose skin. You're going to have a lot of extra skin that will have no where to go. That's a lot of weight; it's another person. I wish you luck and congrats on the 50 pounds. 2D
Reply:Exercise and time will help to tighten you up. Do not worry, I would give yourself about a year of exercise after the loss.
Reply:Losing weight too quickly or unnaturally, as with gastric bypass surgery, is what causes loose skin.

If you lose no more than 3 pounds a week, you should be fine.
Reply:Usually it only happens to the super obese but youth is no defense against it happening. Loose the weight gradually %26amp; you should be fine.
Reply:I have lost just the amount of weight you are targeting to lose -- I have extra skin and a few problem areas still -- anytime you lose large amouts of weight it takes time for your body to adjust

the amount of time your body needs or if the adjustment is even possible depends on many things - how fast was the weight was lost, how healthy are you, your exercise level, so many factors not even a doctor can tell you exactly when the process will be done

here is the plan I decided on for me -- I am almost to my goal now and even right now I have alot of areas to work on -- after reaching my goal I plan to give myself 6 months to a year %26amp; then visit a plastic surgeon -- I know that having lost over 1/2 my body weight I will need to go under the knife, but if that is what it takes to free myself from that fat person inside me I am more than willing to do it and if surgery is what it takes I will.

So don't think about what will happen, make a plan and work within that plan.

Good luck
