Can loose skin be tightened by exercise?

A few years ago I lost about 50 lbs but didn't exercise. I had a lot of loose skin afterwards. I have since gained a few pounds back but am exercising to lose it. Will the loose skin from before be toned up in the process.

Can loose skin be tightened by exercise?
No it can't. Some of it will go away as the skin gets accustomed to it's new shape, but some will still be there. Building muscle will help minimize it. Cosmetic surgery for the last bit of it, if you are that drastic.
Reply:Skin is very elastic but if stretched to capacity by weight gain, the collagen fibers will tear - stretch marks. Unfortunately, skin isn't always very resilient and the loose skin that can come with weight loss may have to removed surgically. You're best bet is to consult with a physician. Everyone's skin reacts differently.
Reply:Skin is a very tricky subject. The resilience of skin to tone after being stretched is dependent on many factors.

One, depending on how much weight you are losing. If you lose so much weight that your skin is extremely loose on your body, you will most likely need to have the excess skin removed surgically.

Two, if you keep your skin moisturized, it can be incredibly resilient when it comes to tone. It may gradually tighten if the weight loss is gradual and you keep your skin properly hydrated - that means inside and out.

Three, realistically age will be a factor. The younger you are, the better chance your skin will get tighter.
Reply:No. Loose skin needs to be taken care of by a plastic surgeon. Many people who have had the gastric bypass surgery have had to have plastic surgery to tighten loose skin. I was watching one of those plastic surgery shows and the doctor described loose skin like quitter socks. Those socks that the elastic has worn out in and always fall down your legs and end up in your shoes.
