Babys loose skin on back of head normal...?
This is totally normal. My baby had the same thing when she was that small. I called it her little elephant neck. She is 10 months old and it is gone now - I think it went away around the 6th or 7th month. I can't remember.
Reply:As Kristen said, it is completely normal. My son has the same thing.
Reply:I would have your pediatrician examine your son. I don't want to alarm you, but excess skin on the back of the neck is a sign of Down's Syndrome. Check out the web-site below for more physical features.

My daughter has Mosaic Down's Syndrome, which means only some of her cells have the extra 21 chromosome. If I had not had an amnio when I was pregnant, we would have never known because she doesn't have any physical features of DS. Some children with MDS may have some physical features of DS. The good thing about MDS is that they usually have higher IQ's than people with full DS. There was a nurse at the hospital I delivered at that had MDS.

I hope it's nothing, but I would still have it checked out just in case. If there was a problem, it's better to get help early as possible.
Reply:it's fine and he will grow into it.
Reply:yes it is normal. There is extra skin there to allow the head to grow and have enough skin for it to fit normally.
Reply:Yes its normal his head will grow a lot yet so he has some extra skin right now but by the time he is two or so itll be gone.
