Why does my snapping turtle (5 month)have loose skin and what should i feed him in winter?

he always has loose skin and i dont know what i could feed him. i put meat in the freezer but he doesnt eat much so the meat like expires, same with the frozen fish

Don't worry about it. I've let my snapper go dormant each winter for 32 years. He doesn't eat much until the weather warms up. Don't toss the meat or fish. If you are worried about freezer burn (your turtle won't care), freeze the food, put it in a small plastic bag with water, and then freeze it again. There might be an expiration date on the package but turtles can't read.
Reply:He is shedding skin its what turtles do. the process is called sloughing. He may not be eating because he is getting too cold. Just get some heat into the tank. Its like hibenating, he gets too cold. This is called torpor
